Kennedy Space Center is the birthplace of America’s space program, and the only place on Earth where man launched into space to set foot on the moon. The Visitor Complex offers guests a must-see, go-at-your-own-pace tour. The first stop is the four-story LC-39 Observation Gantry. Enjoy a panoramic view of and the complex, the space shuttle launch pads and the rocket launch pads at Cape Canaveral. A short film and interactive displays demonstrate launch pad construction and shuttle launches.
Take the bus to the monstrous Vehicle Assembly Building where they stack the space shuttle for launch, and where they once assembled Apollo/Saturn V rockets. these the Orbiter Processing Facility where they examine the orbiter and maintain it after each mission.
The second stop is the Apollo/Saturn V Center, where dramatic multimedia shows and numerous hands-on displays provide visitors with an inspirational and exhilarating look into America’s quest for the moon. Relive the historic launch of Apollo 8 at the Firing Room Theater. Marvel at a monstrous 363-foot Saturn V rocket, the most powerful rocket ever built - one of only three Saturn V moon rockets in existence. Take a rare look at the harrowing final moments before man landed on the moon in the Lunar Theater.
The final stop is the International Space Station Center. The International Space Station is the largest and most ambitious space program since the historic Apollo moon landings. Nations representing every continent joined together to create the station that will weigh almost 1 million pounds and cover nearly a football field when completed. Drive time is approximately an hour each way.
