In an aggressive pursuit of an injury-free workplace goal in support of employee well-being and aligned to the first quartile corporate performance expectation, the “Not by Chance” Safety Improvement Team reduced the OSHA recordable injury rate (RIR) by 68 percent, from 4.85 to 1.56, with a specific targeted process change resulting in a 68-percent reduction of multiple injuries experienced by the same employee. These dramatic results were achieved first through prioritized project selection from Hoshin planning and then systematic problem solving (Six Sigma) utilizing several tools and techniques.
