Location: MCC – 200G

Type of Team: Improvement

The Boeing C-17 Combat Lighting Team intended to add new capability to the C-17 aircraft by redesigning the interior/exterior lighting systems while not impacting any of the current capabilities of the aircraft. The Combat Lighting Team’s goal was to provide a comprehensive full-time crew selectable night vision capability to the C-17. The team used Boeing's best pracitices, a 10-phase systems engineering design methodology, to develop a state-of-the-art lighting system. The team will showcase their holistic approach to managing complexity through the control of aircraft and user requirements. The organization’s goals were met when all four aircraft retrofits were completed on time. The overall project saved the customer approximately $93,000 of aircraft touch labor.
