The Social Responsibility Project

ASQ’s World Conference on Quality and Improvement (WCQI) has worked hard to strengthen its host cities through community engagement projects. This year we will renew this tradition by offering a social responsibility (SR) project in support of Children’s Medical Center Dallas (CMC), located one mile from the conference site—Hilton Anatole. CMC is a private, not-for-profit hospital that offers care for children from birth to 18 and provides 360,000 patient visits per year.

For more information on the facility and its work, please visit Due to patient confidentiality and infection control, groups are not allowed to visit the medical facility. Instead, attendees are encouraged to come to the SR project area in the exhibit hall. In this area, we will feature various projects and donation opportunities to support this great organization.

For young patients, waiting rooms can be difficult (and boring) places. In the SR project area, we will provide the supplies and instructions for you to build a personalized “busy book” that includes coloring and activity pages, crayons, and more. You can also assemble activity goody bags for patients and write personal notes.

    • TOILETRY ITEMS: Patient families often come to CMC unprepared to spend the night—but finding themselves needing to do so. Donate any unused, travel size toiletry items in the SR project area. Specific items that are needed include: shampoo and conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash/soap, lotion, and deodorant.
    • ELECTRONIC CHARGERS: Do you have an old or unused charger for a phone or tablet? Instead of throwing it away and creating e-waste, donate it to CMC for patient families on unexpected visits.
    • BOOKS AND MAGAZINES: Did you read a book or magazine while traveling? We will be collecting recent magazines (no older than six months) as well as new and gently used books for CMC’s Family Resource Library and outpatient facility.

These projects and donation drives will run throughout the conference. So please stop by the SR project area during session breaks or anytime it’s convenient for you. This is a great way to support the Dallas community while meeting and networking with other conference attendees in a fun environment.

Quality for Life™ shares the stories of passionate ASQ members who use their quality skills to make a difference. If you have a story that you would like to share about how you’ve effectively utilized quality tools in your professional or personal life, ASQ will have a film crew on-site to conduct interviews. Filming will take place in Room Fleur-de-Lis in the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, Monday, May 5, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Tuesday, May 6, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

To schedule an interview, contact ASQ Communications Specialist Ryan Krueger at Walk-up interviews will also be accepted during filming hours, however you will not be guaranteed a time slot. The interview itself only takes approximately 10 minutes and upon production, will be edited down to about a 2–3 minute interview that will be posted to the ASQ website at some point in 2014–15. Go to the Quality for Life website for past examples.
