Humana, Inc. — Medicare Billing and Recon SIO Team

The Medicare Billing and Recon SIO Team's objective was to streamline the payment process from the government to pay for beneficiaries correctly for Medicaid. The team accomplished one of Humana’s initiatives to optimize the operation model by changing the payment process with the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for its Puerto Rico Medicaid payments. The project resulted in a 52-percent reduction in defects and a savings of $175,000. Puerto Rico changed their process with CMS for transmitting data for Medicaid. CMS has also allowed the team to reconcile the past data that had already been transferred to complete a retro reconciliation.
