Type of Team: Improvement
Taranto has a knowledge management system based on tutorial guidance. Supported by management, a multidisciplinary team followed an improvement process to change the methodology, formalize tutors’ training, and establish a new follow-up system. Results included improvement in staff satisfaction, an increase in product quality, and scrap reduction. The team's objective was to improve the tutoring system by finding and eliminating causes of an increase in defective parts , staff dissatisfaction, and increased costs related to the process of knowledge management. The team followed the PDCA cycle using control charts, cause and effect diagrams, cause and effect matrices, and surveys. The project achieved an annual savings of $36,000, mainly due to decreasing scrap and defective parts. An improvement of 60 percent in some topics of the employee satisfaction survey was also achieved.
