DUC is a technology-based innovative improvement that enables Fabrinet to break old rules and create new ways of working. In this business, data is as important as finished goods. Thus, the project has a purpose to be a solution for transferring files with higher security where problems from old approaches such as production-halt and shipment-holds due to file transfer failures can be prevented. The team followed the SDLC framework by using Pareto and fishbone during the design and analysis phases. DUC alone saved $57,000 USD within the first year of deployment and continues to save costs. Customer complaints on file transfer problems went down 89 percent. Problems related to lack of data have been eliminated. And, intangible benefits such as IP protection and data fraud prevention have been realized. The expectations were high, but DUC went higher.
