Front End Improvement Team
Presentation: Tuesday, May 25, 4:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Room: 261
Type of Team: Problem Solving
The team followed MCC’s continuous process improvement strategy to reduce the tear-off rate by more than 50 percent in the Jacksonville beverage can plant. Tear-offs occur in the can forming process at speeds of more than 400 cans per minute. They cause the forming equipment to jam and may severely damage the tooling. By reducing the tear-off rate, we improved equipment uptime and reduced tooling cost, resulting in several million additional cans of production.
