Type of Team: Work Improvement
The project objective is to enable RSN's ship to deploy further and for a longer duration. The team followed the OODA methodology throughout the project. In addition, tools like 5 WHYs, SCAMPER, brainstorming, and question techniques were used to help identify the root causes and generate possible solutions. Substance field analysis was carried out to address the area of concerns to yield the final solution. The overall project cost savings generated from the reduction of equipment and manpower costs amounted to S$221,200 per year. The result was a 33-percent reduction for defect turnaround time (TAT), which is 8 percent higher than the target set at reducing defect TAT by 25 percent. The overall project results have impacted the organization with greater technical self-sufficiency of ships deployed out at sea and faster turnaround time of defective system equipments. As such, RSN was able to achieve higher levels of mission success and greater operational effectiveness, especially in overseas deployments over longer durations.
