The primary function of the process under analysis was to transform the communication requirements of the marketing areas of Telefónica into media advertisements, focusing on the payment/exchange of invoices with media suppliers. The team had two goals: effectiveness (paying media suppliers consistent with contract provisions) and efficiency (through reduction in transactions). Cutting Cuts

Presentation: Tuesday, May 25, 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Room: 262

Type of Team: Six Sigma

The project, which was developed by Telefónica and Movistar, supplies the needs of telecomunications companies by solving transmition problems on the mobile networks. This project can be applied to service companies in general. The project encircled more than 2,300 base stations distributed all over the Argentine territory and in order to reach the goals, Six Sigma methodolgy and the DMAIC discipline were implemented. During the project, two critical objectives were defined: effectiveness, which meant a reduction of the number of services breakdowns that took place at the base stations, and efficiency, which meant the reduction of interventions at each site. The project team achieved a saving of $4 million USD per year by reducing the number of breakdowns by 70 percents and reducing the intervention at the sites by 50 percent. This helped to improve the image of the company and the service provided to its customers. In addition to the results achieved, this project helped to improve the interaction between both companies by integrating and synergizing processes of both companies, producing cultural changes, tearing down paradigms, and settling the grounds to sustain this change in time and promote new initiatives.
